Privacy Policy
Last updated: November 1, 2026
Walkk is a paid walking and offline-maps app for iPhone. This policy explains what data the app handles and where it goes. The same text is shown in the app under Settings › Privacy.
Summary
- No accounts, no advertising, no analytics or tracking.
- Your walks, routes, step counts, saved places, notes, collections, achievements and preferences are stored only on your iPhone. The developer has no server and never receives them.
- The app does make network requests, listed below, to show maps, download offline data and search for places.
Data stored on your device
| Data | Purpose | Where |
|---|---|---|
| GPS points of walks you record (latitude, longitude, altitude, time, accuracy) | Draw your route and compute distance and pace | On-device database |
| Step counts during walks (if you allow Motion & Fitness) | Show steps for a walk | On-device database |
| Saved places, notes, names, collections | Your personal collection | On-device database |
| Downloaded maps and walking-path data | Offline use | On-device storage |
| Preferences | Remember your settings | On-device storage |
On-device data is included in your iPhone backups (iCloud or computer) according to your device settings, and it is deleted when you delete the app. You can delete it at any time in Settings › Data, and export it as a JSON file.
Location
Walkk asks for location access While Using the App only. It is used to show your position on the map, record walks you start, and guide you along walking routes. During a walk the app keeps recording while the screen is locked, and iOS shows the location indicator. Your location is never sent to the developer or to the services below.
Network requests
| Service | When | What is sent |
|---|---|---|
| OpenFreeMap (tiles.openfreemap.org), operated by Hyperknot Software Kft. | Viewing the map online, downloading an offline map | Requests for map tiles, fonts and tile metadata for the area being viewed or downloaded, a Walkk user-agent string, and your IP address (as with any internet request) |
| OpenStreetMap Overpass API (overpass-api.de, or a server configured by the developer) | Downloading walking-directions data for a map | The rectangle of the area you chose, a Walkk user-agent string, your IP address |
| Apple Maps search (MapKit) | Searching for places | The text you type and the approximate map area, sent to Apple under Apple's privacy policy |
These requests do not include your GPS position, walk history, saved places or any identifier from Walkk. Each provider may keep standard server logs under its own policy: OpenFreeMap, FOSSGIS / Overpass, Apple.
Children
Walkk has no accounts or social features and does not knowingly collect data from anyone.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be published at this address and in the app.
